News: Festival Of Cycling 2011:
Getting closer, 17th & 18th September, same format as last year (see below), organised in conjunction with TLI, this weekend of four races is intended as some tasty racing with a flavour of socialising mixed in. The Velo29 guys from south of the border have already booked there travel and it is hoped that we will attract riders from all over once again.
What We Do:
The Bute Wheelers are a small club with a big heart! We love our cycling, naturally, and have always made the most of the open roads and great scenery the island has to offer. We also take advantage of the very close proximity of the Cowal peninsula, with easy access to lots more great cycling country.
The Isle of Bute Triathlon was first hosted back in 2001, but has come along way since then. It’s a pool-swim, and with Novice and Sprint options, and latterly also a Junior swim-run event. In recent years we have had about 140 participants, the majority of these visitors to Bute.
The Festival of Cycling or
`Rothesay Weekend’ is 4 road-bike races over two days, including
the infamous Serpentine hill-climb, a 2-up time trial event
around the island, a 10 mile time trial, and a road race; with
some good old-fashioned socialising in between. It’s a laid-back
event, which has been in place at least as far back as the
1950s. Originally organised under parameters of SCU, these days
its in cahoots with the TLI.
