News: Festival Of Cycling 2011:

Getting closer, 17th & 18th September, same format as last year (see below), organised in conjunction with TLI, this weekend of four races is intended as some tasty racing with a flavour of socialising mixed in. The Velo29 guys from south of the border have already booked there travel and it is hoped that we will attract riders from all over once again.

What We Do:

The Bute Wheelers are a small club with a big heart! We love our cycling, naturally, and have always made the most of the open roads and great scenery the island has to offer. We also take advantage of the very close proximity of the Cowal peninsula, with easy access to lots more great cycling country.

Midweek 10 mile time trial (April - Sept Tuesday evening 7pm start at Etrrick Dale lay-by)

Midweek Serpentine Hill climb April - Sept, Thursday evening 7pm start

Weekend Ride 25+ miles (all year Sunday 9.30 am, Start at The Bike Shed)

The Ladies tend to do there own thing, & have a Midweek group

The club have a track record of organising some seriously good events, namely the Annual Isle of Bute Triathlon and the long-standing Festival of Cycling or `Rothesay September Weekend’ as it’s also known

The long overdue kit is designed, brilliant effort Bob, now in production thanks again Velo29.
The offer is £25 for cycling top and same for bib shorts, £50 for both includes this year's club membership fee.

The Isle of Bute Triathlon was first hosted back in 2001, but has come along way since then. It’s a pool-swim, and with Novice and Sprint options, and latterly also a Junior swim-run event. In recent years we have had about 140 participants, the majority of these visitors to Bute.

The Festival of Cycling or `Rothesay Weekend’ is 4 road-bike races over two days, including the infamous Serpentine hill-climb, a 2-up time trial event around the island, a 10 mile time trial, and a road race; with some good old-fashioned socialising in between. It’s a laid-back event, which has been in place at least as far back as the 1950s. Originally organised under parameters of SCU, these days its in cahoots with the TLI.

Drummond Trophy Road Race 2011: as part of the Festival of Cycling the Bute Wheelers have agreed to also host the 2011 Drummond Trophy Road Race. This special event has been held every year since 1956, and can count amongst its past winners many of the UK’s top cyclists. This is a real treat for cycling enthusiasts on Bute. Entries on
